She uses therapeutic interventions such as writing, spoken word poetry, percussion and hand drumming in the context of both individual practice and engagement with creative community.
Born on sovereign Gadigal Land, Sydney, Gabrielle is of Māori and African heritage and has resided in Djiringanj Country, Bega Valley NSW, with her family since 2018. She is inspired by creative communities that prioritise diversity, activism, and inclusion. Gabrielle actively contributes to the formation of such spaces when they are not readily available.
With over thirty years of experience performing poetry at local, national, and international events, Gabrielle also facilitates workshops in spoken word and drumming. Her podcast with Wilfred Roach, “All That We Perceive,” explores her reflections as a queer, black poet in Australia and is accessible via Podbean.
Gabrielle has four collections of poetry published by Ginninderra Press – Spoken Medicine (2017), Etymology of Courage (2021), The Purpose of Truth (2023) and Arrangements (2025). In March 2026, Gabrielle launched her audiobook “20 Years of Spoken Word Poetry” reading 175 poems from her books.
