Rindu is the physical manifestation of nearly two decades of communication at a distance; from the letters and weekly phone calls from my grandparents, to the convoluted Whatsapp messages with recipes and ideas and brief, information-dense phone calls with my mother at any time of day. In an endless attempt at comfort during difficult times, I find myself returning to my culture through food, discovering the weight within each item that nourished my entire bloodline and the importance of holding this knowledge for future generations.
Rindu means to miss something, or someone, or to be homesick in Malay.
